Appreciating an incredible gift on Nov. 11
November is a month for gratitude and deep reflections.
As we remember the brave men and women in our Armed Forces who sacrificed their lives, let us not forget that it was done so future generations could live in peace. No one returned from war without scars; they traded the lives they knew so we could enjoy the freedoms we have today. This gift so selflessly given to us is precious, and I thank all the military members and their families who continue to protect our great country.
This month is also a time of great anticipation in the lead-up to the Christmas season. When I think of Christmas, I think of the generous nature of Manitobans to help others in need. One inspiring young man who lives in the Fort Richmond constituency is leading the way this season with a drive to gather baby formula for Winnipeg Harvest.
Atticus McIlraith, 13, was born with a heart of gold and lives with a condition called Asperger syndrome. When he heard about babies going hungry three years ago, he decided to do something about it! So far, Atticus has raised more than $25,000 and hopes to continue helping to feed babies for many years to come. His slogan is, “No Baby Should Ever Go Hungry.” The formula drive will kick off on Nov. 18 and continue until just before Christmas.
I am happy to support this young man by hosting a formula drive at my constituency office on Dec. 9 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Bring your donation of baby formula or money to 27-2855 Pembina Hwy.
The staff at the Legislative Building have been busy sifting through their holiday lights, and I heard there’s a bit of a competition brewing among the ministers for the best decorated office. If you are interested in seeing the wonderful displays in person, a Christmas Open House will be held at the Legislative Building (450 Broadway) on Dec. 3 from 1 to 3 p.m. Come and enjoy the wonderful sounds of carolers and bands while mingling with MLAs in this beautiful building. I would love to see Fort Richmond well represented.
One of my favourite activities as a child during the holiday season was attending all the community craft shows in Fort Richmond. If you would like to have your craft show promoted at my constituency office, please feel free to drop your flyers off or provide an electronic copy to my email at email@example.com.
